For the past ten years, DISCIPLE has been instrumental in transforming the lives of both individual Christians and congregations in many parts of the world and we rejoice that it is now available in the United Kingdom.

There are three Disciple Bible Study Programme available in the UK:

D1: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study

D2: Into the Word Into the World

D3: Remember Who You Are

In due course we plan to make DISCIPLE 4: Under The Tree of Life

available for those who have completed Disciple 1, 2 and 3.

DISCIPLE 1: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study

During the course of 34 weeks, DISCIPLE study groups move through the biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem.  The titles of the sessions along with theme words, theme verses and key characters, events and topics, will fix the sequence of the biblical story in the minds of participants.  The principal Scripture for each session follow the chronological movement of the biblical story.  DISCIPLE gives equal time to both Old and New Testaments, emphasising the wholeness of the Bible as the revelation to God.

DISCIPLE 2: Into the Word Into the World

Churches who have already completed DISCIPLE 1 will now be able to move on to DISCIPLE 2, which was launched in 1999 and the number of churches involved continues to grow.  This is a 32-week study of Genesis-Exodus and Luke-Acts which builds on the knowledge gained during DISCIPLE 1 and now offers participants a deeper and more detailed perspective.

New aspects include:

  •   Spiritual disciplines

  •   Personal ministry

  •   Basic Resources Library - a new component to help with deeper study of Scripture.
During the course group members will borrow some of the books for reading, study and
research to assist detailed, deeper study and to aid personal spiritual growth.  (This is
offset by less daily reading than in DISCIPLE 1).

DISCIPLE 3: Remember Who You Are

A 32-week study of The Prophets and The Letters of St Paul.  Its focus is on the obedient community and so it helps us to look both at our discipleship and at the Christian community.

  • the call to remember

  • the call to repentance

  • the need for renewed vision (eyes to see, eyes to hear)

  • and the place of community

DISCIPLE 3 confronts the persistent questions of the prophets and Paul:

  • 'What are the priorities in you life?'

  • 'What are the priorities in society?'

Who is it for?  The course is designed for those who have completed Disciple 1. Those who take part in the course will need to be able to commit themselves to 32 weeks of group meetings. It is not necessary for group members to have completed Disciple 2 before they do Disciple 3.
